Times Have Changed
June 2009
Shalom, Friends,
“There is a friend that sticks closer than a
brother” (Proverbs
18:24). And Jesus said, “I have called you
friends for all that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you”
(John 15:13).
This
issue of the Bible Light on the News marks the 16th
year of its publication. Bible Light’s first pro-Israel publication was in
1957 and in a similar format. After a few years it went to a small newspaper
called the Bible Light STAR. In those days it was
tedious work, typesetting on a composer (which required re-typing each time
it was edited, cutting and pasting meticulously).
Then we
entered the computer age that made the work much easier. Elmer Josephson,
who had always been the editor, began to fail after 60 years on the
cutting-edge ministry of Christian/Jewish relations. He was a pioneer in
this Biblical understanding and he may have been the first to teach that the
Everlasting Abrahamic Covenant did not support the Evangelical Christian’s
concept of converting Jews to the “church”.
Gradually
the editor’s job became mine as Terry Distin (with tremendous publishing and
computer knowledge) assisted me in beginning the Bible Light on the
News publication some 15 years ago. Elmer departed this life
October 27, 1996. In 1999, Biblical light on the two Houses of Israel burst
into my understanding out of which came the Bible study book, Judah,
You’re Not Alone; I am Joseph, Your Brother - teaching NOT
replacement theology but re-joining the entire family of Israel. This has
become a new “wave” among Evangelical Christians which has caused confusion
many times. The only purpose of Bible Light is to seek to infuse
BIBLICAL LIGHT into all areas of life on this planet, by recognizing the
Word of the LORD is the sure foundation for all knowledge. And we seek to
follow tried and proved guidelines for interpretation, such as not isolating
verses of Scripture to suit what we want to believe, but rather taking
consideration of context and comparing Scripture with Scripture in all the
Bible has to say on the subject.
After
these many years, only a few who knew the early days of Bible Light, Inc.
are still living and continue to receive our mailings. Most of the
younger generation is computer knowledgeable. So we have reached the place
where the response to the mailings does not cover the high printing and
postage costs.
NOW, I
need your advice: Shall we continue to print and mail the publication, or
shall we simply publish it online only using our website
www.Bible-Light.com -- where most past publications are
already available? For those who do not have access to a computer, we could
print out a copy and mail it.
So, will
you kindly fill out and submit this Reader's Survey? Thank you so much. And may your thirst for the Word of
the Lord continue to grow and may His always-present Spirit guide you into
all truth.
In His Love, and Name,
Chris Josephson
A note from Terry Distin, BLI Treasurer: We are very
grateful for those who donate to BLI so that we can continue. |
